I recently purchased a Disney Netpal and would like to install OS X on it. I know it's an Intel 1.6 Ghz N270 processor and Intel GMA945 graphics processor. The WiFi and network card are from Atheros (AR9285 and AR8132 PCI-E respectively). Intel 82801G USB controller. Realtek audio. Has anyone converted one of these or knows a good starting point? I believe based on the specs it's close to a 900HA. Thank you

Please, give your feedback here.
PS1 I am interested iof anyone has applied it to a 10.5.8…
PS2 …Leopard and Snow Leopard are 2 different species, even in heraldy. The Snow Leopard, known also as Bars is a sacred totem of the Bulgarian Royal domain of Duloh (royal family of the most prominent Bulgarian Khans). The Bars is related to the male name of Bars, Baris, Boris, that exists today. The Bars's skin was only allowed to be vested by the Khan himself. And it's skin is a protype of the hermeline skin used centuries after the Bars has been a sacred family animal of the Bulgarian Khans… Long Live Their Glory! // Regards, NF

Guys,

I just released some video tutos on my new site, technow.cc.
(My enik.ch site will serve more personal purposes in the future even though I'll leave the old tutos in place for the time being.)

There is a video walkthrough tutorial on installing SL on the 1000HE (I know that most of you don't need that but still… ;-)
and another on creating custom DSDT files because I had a lot of questions/rambling on my site that were due to incompatible dsdt.aml files…

The stuff that I put up is largely based on the work done here on ipis-osx (so thanks snikersmd, Thireus, slither, pentuimpc and all the others) and I merely put it in a noobs-proof form (at least I hope so ;-)

You can access the tutos here.

Snikers or any other moderator (I don't have the time to do it…): If you'd like to put up the videos, please link to my post on technow.cc and not directly to the youtube page…

Let me know what you think…

Nik

Eeepc + Snow Leopard + Touch Screen

My journey in modifying my eeepc 901 into a touch input tablet.

Hi all.

I mentioned a little while ago that once I succeeded in getting snow leopard onto my eeepc, the next step would be to turn it into a touch tablet. Well I'm half way through this journey, with some success and some failure. Mostly the success is that the touch input works almost flawlessly with snow leopard. Once connected, the OS detects it automatically and works however is a little out of calibration (there is no default way of calibrating it in SL). Luckily there are drivers/apps out there to do this and once installed/calibrated, the result is pretty positive. I've attached a video to give you a idea of the concept and how it works so far (bear in mind I haven't properly calibrated the screen yet).

Click on image below to see video, excuse the amateur footage:

Now. There are some issues. Firstly the cable for the monitor is short so folding back on itself isn't possible to create a tablet form so I'm hunting currently for a longer one. The next issue is when restarting the eeepc, the calibration goes haywire (seems to think I am touching an area of the screen and holds the cursor here, when I touch somewhere else it move there but once realeased goes back to that initial corner). I can fix this by removing the power and battery, disconnecting the touch screen then holding down the power button for a bit. I'm still looking into this, think prehaps it is a connection or power distribution issue? I read some posts where people have soldered the touch screen hub directly to the motherboard to fix any input issues. My soldering skills are like that of an over caffeinated junkie so I might practice elsewhere till I've mastered that.

For those wanting to look at doing this mod but just as a touchscreen enabled eeepc, I can give you a few pointers.

1. Touchscreen purchase. I bought two during this mod. The first one was glass and ended up being a f@#$% to remove once double side taped to the LCD screen. Ended up cracking it beyond repair, so opted for the flexible plastic ones you can get from ebay. I think fidohub sell these as well, pretty sure they were the same screen.

2. DON'T install SL yet. I found installing it AFTER I installed the touchscreen made the OS locate the hardware component out of the box.

3. Follow one of the many guides online in removing your eeepc's external shell to rig up the touch screen panel. Anyone wanting a quick link I used this one for some parts which is also from the fidohub website.

4. Once up and running, I used this link to download the right driver. I was pleasantly suprised they had updated their drivers for SL.

5. I did the 25 point calibration to get the best results, after which I had a fully functioning touchscreen eeepc running SL.

If I can get this set up the way I want, the next step will be looking at getting a custom case made so it doesn't resemble a mess of parts and electrical tape. I will upload more content once I have finished putting this together and so forth on my journey on creating the ultimate SL tablet.

Thanks all for reading and special thanks to ebay seller visualtouchworld for the great touchscreen, fidohub for the great guide and Roby82 for an excelent tutorial on getting SL onto your eeepc!

Coreyd

UPDATE:

Through an idea of my partners, we made a shell for the device out of lego of all things. Just a proof of concept but looks and functions a hell of a lot better than the mess I had before. Photo's below.

First I'd like to thank all the posters here, I have been lurking here for many months getting info on installing OSX onto my 900HA.

I'd like to contribute something back in return after several months of running OSX on my netbook.

Here are some tips for people who had OSX installed and running:

1. Use proper kext

After reading a post on benchmark speed of eeepc running OSX I discovered my system is running at a much lower speed than some users. (and I thought it was fast) I hunted down the latest kexts and installed them and you know what? It bumped the speed up significantly. I think the CPU is affected by the power saving kexts, so you need to use the latest ones. Use the latest Intel GMA kexts too! The speed improvement can be felt in real applications, not just with benchmark.

2. Power Management bundle

I have read a lot of users not getting hibernation or sleep, it's got a lot to do with the power management bundle, If your PMbundle is not working, your hard disk will spindown every few seconds which causes the clunky noise, it also affects the CPU performance and battery usage.

Check under Power in System Profiler, see if it displays any info about your battery, if it doesn't, then it's not working.

After updating OSX, new powerbundle kext will overwrite your old ones, make sure you patch it!

For eeepc, you can extract the 'resource' folder from Nik's power management bundle and put it inside the new one. Make sure you install it with proper permission, don't just drop it into the S/L/SystemConfiguration folder.

You can open the resource folder and change the power saving setting if you want.

Once it's properly installed, check the system profiler to see if the battery info is active. Try hibernation, it should be working. If not, google "deep sleep widget" and download the free widget for dashboard - it is the easiest way to configure the sleep behaviour for OSX.

3. Hear

If anyone wants to improve their audio on their eeeMac, try this software. Once it's properly configured, you will have a hi-fi 3d audio on all your music, games and movies! Google, "hear for mac". You can download it free if you are smart enough to find it. ;)

4. Disk utility fix permission errors

This one should be a surprise for some of you. After installing new kexts, you should use Disk Utility to fix permission errors on your OSX drive. You will be very surprise just how many errors DU can pick up. Fixing it will resolved slow bootup and other problems.

I hope these tips can be of some help to you guys.

It shows the remaining time to full charge or percentage.

On battery it shows only the percentage and when I´m trying to change to time it shows "lädt nicht" (not charging)
Maybe someone with WORKING battery meter could post his/her configuration, where to get the special kexts etc…

Thanks for your input!

I found this thread in eeeuser forum and decided to try – and it works! I find the 1000HE keyboard a much better choice if you do a lot of typing with your 1000H. The keys have a more distinct feeling, looks nicer (like an Air or newer MacBook) so the EEE “feels” more mature. The major improvement and reason for my change is that the right shift key is larger and has in my view a better position. I hit the arrow up key instead of right shift key in about 30-40% during typing which is annoying in the long run. You need bios 1902 or later to have it properly recognized and it works great with Mac OS. I haven't found any problems yet (after one day of typing).

I had to cut two minor tabs at the lower end of the new keyboard (used a nail-clipper) and filed down what I missed with a small nibbler. I also cut off the four small tabs at each side of the new keyboard to get a snug fit. I'm using it now and it has a great feeling.

I bought my keyboard at Asusparts in Europe, just be sure that you get the right layout and model.

I'll see if I'll upload some pictures later on.

Enjoy!

I used the iAtkos 10.5.7 to install OS X onto my 1000H and it worked well.
Then I used Software Update to go to 10.5.8. Unfortunately, this sent me back to 800x600 which I will try to rectify with SwitchX as soon as I've made an image of the install so I can restore it if something breaks.
Next would be an attempt to get Snow Leopard installed. Had a couple of goes already but they didn't work. I think I need to put the dmg onto my USB stick and install Chameleon to the same stick (maybe in a smaller GUID partition). Will look into it. I've tried wrapping my brain around the tutorials but nothing is sticking in there yet.

Howdy!

I'm buying an Asus Netbook today and found a great deal for the 1002H. However, there's not one site on the net discussing installing OSX on it. Also, it seems the consensus is the N280 is not really that much faster than the N270 so I may be just better off getting the 1000H which at least we know it works really well with OSX.

What do you think?

Cheers! :)

I have an EeePC 901 XP. It's not using the latest BIOS on ASUS website, though maybe I should do an update (just dun have power cable with me atm). Current BIOS is 2001.

Here is the screenshot of the kernel panic. It's the same every time (after getting past the Apple CPU Info kext problem). Tried different boot loaders, different kexts, a patched DSDT file. Not really sure what to do now.

Right now, I'm using a Mac Mini to do an installation from retail Snow Leopard DVD onto an SD card, and then hopefully can mod it so that it'll boot on my EeePC.

I really don't know where to turn next. Most guides are cryptic, and I'm getting lost in so much conflicting information/multiple versions of kexts/bootloaders/etc.

I have an unmodified DSDT.aml file taken from my Eee using Linux to get it.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide; feel like I'm drowning in a sea of constantly changing information! ;(

Is anyone else getting strange percentage readings from the battery menu extra? If I use the Apple one, I get 100% for an hour or so before it declines. If I use SlimBatteryMonitor, it starts up at 140% or so. Once it passes 100%, it matches the Apple one, so it appears that Apple enforces a max of 100%. The battery life duration appears correct.

Running VoodooPower, VoodooBattery, SleepEnabler, OpenHaltRestart, AppleSMBIOS, etc.

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to install iDeneb 10.5.6 on my 1000H with the 2102 unmodified BIOS, however I cannot get to to boot after the installation, I think the only way to do it is to install the Chameleon Bootloader and copy the DSDT file I have prepared to it, but the problem is I dont know how to do that! I have tried downgrading my BIOS to the modified 1902 BIOS with EZ-Flash and AFUDOS but neither have worked yet. So if anyone can tell how to install the Chameleon Bootloader from a USB Drive or how to downgrade the 2102 BIOS or even how just how to include the dsdt file in the installation, I would really appreciate it!

Thanks,

Matt

Everything was perfectly working in 10.5.7 (except the "linux version's" cam of course).
I had managed to get all of this working by googling and trying, reinstalling, updating, rereading docs, and above all thanking all the great and skilled people doing this stuff for us.

However, since 10.5.8, everything's broken. I found some interesting webpages around like the one from thireus who's also posting around here. But still, I can't make it work.
I have no more sound, no more ethernet, and if I can get it to sleep and wake up correctly, I have no more the performance option panel showing up.
I found no way to put them back. I'm really considering to reinstall and stick on 10.5.7…

I am not asking for particular help, I will keep on trying.

But what would be very cool and easier are wiki pages, one for each eee model. Everybody around seems to have a 1000xyz (could it be the reason why it does not work on mine?). Not a lot of people talk about other stuff (I saw one 901, no 900, I know they have some piece of HW in common, I may be wrong too). These kind of pages, wiki pages (we are on wikidot!) are meant to be kept updated, corrected, improved, according to the findings in forums or blogs. I find it a lot more inefficient to check up every forum threads every once in a while (same on other sites) and try the many proposed solutions for not-exactly-the-same-model-as-mine, compared to a single page, one for each model (with pointers to other pages that are common to some models if applicable) which would be the result of all the up-to-date findings.

I'm not willing to troll. I'm ready to help if I can. For instance if the admins start to create the good wiki tree, I can try and fill in the 901/linux page for a good-to-me 10.5.7 installation. If ever such pages exist that I'm not aware of, then kick me to hell (but show them to me first ;-)

—
david

Have BIOS 2102 for 1000h. Couldn't flash it, so went ahead with install. Currently have Win7Pro installed, and waiting for step 3.4 of eNik tutorial (http://www.enik.ch/2009/03/osx-leopard-1056-on-the-eee-1000h/) I don't think I want to wait 20-40 mins, so is there a working BIOS patch that will overwrite the 2102? I tried flashing with the recommended ones, but they just hung for 10+ minutes, so I restarted and they were the same as before.

Thanks!

Hello all,

I've been working on creating a Snow Leopard installer on a USB key, so that I don't have to muck about with Boot-132 CD/DVD swapping, or waiting for distros to emerge.

What I'm trying to accomplish:

Boot the Mac OS X installer from USB

All hardware - especially networking - available, especially for Time Machine restores

Able to install onto an MBR-formatted disk

The basics of my machine:

Eee 901, 2GB memory, 64GB SSD formatted MBR with Windows XP, Windows 7, and Mac OS X 10.5.8.

DSDT.aml created with DSDT Patcher or somesuch a long time ago

Stock ASUS BIOS 2103

So far, it's not going so well - all I have is the first one. Here's what I've done - perhaps someone can point out where I went wrong:

Formatted an 8GB USB key as GUID partition table, with two HFS+ partitions. The first is 200MB for Chameleon and /Extra, while the second is the remaining space for the OS X install DVD content.

Using Disk Utility's restore feature, copied the DVD to the second partition. Given how slow my USB key is, this took about 4 hours (!).

Installed Chameleon to the USB key. I like doing this by hand, so I used fdisk and dd. As I couldn't recall which partition boot1h and boot should go on (does it go where the OS is, or where /Extra is?), I put it on both the Chameleon and DVD partitions - it can't hurt. :)

Copied over a known-good 10A421 /Extra folder. Made a variety of updates for FakeSMC.kext and related issues. It's a shame that with FakeSMC.kext, we're back to needing Disabler.kext, OpenHaltRestart.kext.

Modified OSInstall.mkpg to allow for installing to MBR - in theory.

(Really interested in helping? Here's an image of the Chameleon partition as well as a copy of the modified OSInstall.mpkg.)

Here's my kernel extension list:

_FakeSMC.kext
Replacement for AppleDecrypt on 10A432.

_AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext
_ApplePS2Controller.kext
Keyboard and trackpad support. I don't use Voodoo as it screws up the backquote/tilde key - and I need that on the CLI.

_AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext
I believe this is needed for OS X to access the internal SSD's on the Eee.

_AppleIntelGMA950.kext
_AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext
Patched from the original Snow Leopard versions.
_Natit.kext
Required (to the best of my knowledge) for the graphics drivers above to function. Honestly not sure what it does, other than it's needed.

_AttansicL1eEthernet.kext
Wired Ethernet support.

_BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController.kext
Allows me to turn on and off the internal Bluetooth without rebooting to the BIOS. Otherwise, Bluetooth works out of the box.

_Disabler.kext
Disables Intel power management extensions that tend to crash if loaded.
_OpenHaltRestart.kext
Allows proper poweroff at shutdown.

_UUID.kext
Installed along the way to help fix Time Machine and System Profiler issues; I could probably remove it, but haven't tried.

_VoodooBattery.kext
_VoodooPower.kext
_AppleSMBIOS.kext
Works perfectly for battery and power management in Leopard, but as noted seems to have some issues under Snow Leopard. AppleSMBIOS and matching smbios.plist for proper battery reporting (as reported by dadaz in the 10.5.8 thread).

_VoodooHDA.kext
Modified with a "correct" version string so it would load properly.

The following are all included as dependencies, I believe for the video, sound, and wired ethernet drivers:
IOACPIFamily.kext (Video)
IOGraphicsFamily.kext (Video)
IONDRVSupport.kext (Video)
IOPCIFamily.kext (Video, Ethernet)
IONetworkingFamily.kext (Ethernet)
IOAudioFamily.kext (Audio)
OSvKernDSPLib.kext (Audio)

And here's how I modified the OSInstall.mkpg to allow MBR installs:
See below for how to enable installation on MBR disks - the method has changed from previous releases.

When the system boots, the installer comes up with language selection, license agreement, etc. However, I ran into the following problems:
# At the disk selection screen, any partition on an MBR disk has a yellow exclamation point on it, with the text:

To install on this disk, open Disk Utility by choosing Utilities > Disk Utility, and repartition this disk using "GUID Partition Table." Important: you will lose all data on this disk by repartitioning it.

The airport item on the menubar is a gray, empty airport item. Opening it yields "Airport: Not configured".

Network Utility shows both the Airport and the Ethernet card MAC addresses, but neither function.

Hi Everyone,

I'm pretty new to the whole hackintosh scene and am having some problems with installing Leopard 10.5.6 on my 1000H and I'm pretty sure they're all related to the dsdt file.

I followed the guide by eNik which worked perfectly except for a few things, the first is that there is an X over the battery icon and it says it can't find any batteries, the second is none of the hotkeys work, some of them worked such as brightness control before I used the DSDT file but now none of them do anything, the last problem is that I can no longer boot Windows XP, it continues to hang when I select it, I've tried installing the Chameleon bootloader but it hasn't changed anything.

To my understanding, I'm supposed to the place the DSDT file in the root directory of the mac partiton right? I was a little unsure of that part. I also thought that it would be better to make my own dsdt file rather than the precompiled ones that eNik provides you with, but I haven't tried this yet as I'm no sure it would affect anything.

If anyone can help with these problems I would really appreciate it. I especially need help with the Hotkeys problem as I have a problem with my screen that causes lines to appear across it and unfortunatly the only way to fix it is with by killing the display, which can only be done with the hotkeys.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Hi everyone,

If anyone has noticed, I haven't been active with this group in over half a year. I finally sat down and implemented the logo design provided by our wiki member Elroy, but I have little time to do much else.

I am happy to see that this community is still thriving and active without me. I would like to ask for the following:

Will someone please update our front page to reflect the full working status of OS X on the ipis? The text that is there still talks about how there is no sound or ethernet. I frankly don't know what to say there especially with regards to the newer ipis models, so will someone mind compiling the latest stuff from the forum threads? Thanks!

Secondly, I've appointed moderators to watch over the forum, but I'd like to pass on the admin torch as well now. If there are any moderators here that would like to have some privilege upgrade to better manage the site and its content, please PM me.

I'm not leaving, I just don't visit as often and I would like to leave the group in better, more available hands.

Thanks everyone,

snickers

Hi all dudes, sorry for the lack of updates, i've been busy with real life© lately;

however here's the latest patched bios for eeepc 1000h, version 2102 it sports the OSX patches and an integrated SLIC 2.1 table to offline activate windows 7 for all of you bad guys!

In the archive as always you'll find a 1000H.ROM file, with a bare metal DSDT which will boot Leopard, but will not sport other fixes to (hopely) retain XP compatibility, and a dsdt.aml to place where pertinent in your OSX drive which has all the fixes/patches, power button, brightness restore after sleep, vga string injection, sleep with lid closed etc.

As a premium i added a 2.1 SLIC table to take advantage of windows 7 / vista offline activation without messing with loaders and other crap.

To activate windows 7 head over to mydigitallife forums and read the guides; basically you'll need the HP .xrm-ms certificate for windows 7 and the leaked lenovo ultimate key, i'm sure you'll find out the whole procedure very easy.

to integrate the slic table i used AMI tool (found on mydigitallife forums) and used SSV3 method with SSV3 SLIC RELOCATION option enabled in the advanced options pane; dynamic method didn't work for me.

Here's the link: http://www.eyedeas.it/alexdeb/1000H-2102_SLIC2.1_MAC-FRIENDLY_DSDT.rar

Credits to pentiumpc for sharing DSDT hacks with us & to the folks at mydigitallife.info for their SLIC efforts.

HAVE FUN!

Hi there,

Someone recommended me to post my problem here, so here I am ;D

Well I have been trying around with getting Snow Leopard Build 10A380 to work on my netbook (900A), so my steps have been to install it via OSInstaller.mpkg onto my SSD, to apply Disabler.kext and dsmos.kext and to install a 10.6 ready version of the Chameleon v2 bootloader, but when I was trying to boot into SL I was getting stuck here:

ATA Disk: Cheksum Cookie not valid

What I tried was to apply the IOATAFamily.kext builded for 10.5.7 from here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=88335&st=60 but it didn't used to work with SL and returned some load error with the code 4 (I don't know what exactly the message was.)
Applying just the AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext from the Plugin folder of IOATAFamily.kext made me hang on the Checksum Cookie error again. :-(
Any suggestions on how I may solve this are welcome!

Thanks!

Do you guys have any issues with the security setting 'require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver'?

Whenever I set that on it seems to lose its setting after every reboot.. it doesn't actually lose the setting in the security interface (the tick is still there), but it just doesn't work at all.
If you try to enable it, it won't work straight away without loggin out and back on again. If you log out and log back in it, start the screen saver or the sleep mode and when you try to wake it up it will show you the logon banner. But if you now try to reboot the machine you will see, at the next session, that the setting no longer applies.

Could you let me know if you have the same problem?

Thanks,
Matteo

Make OS X think there is an external DVD player attached in order to be able to use DVD player to play Video_TS files.

I have a dual boot (XP and OS X) Asus 1005HA that is working very well except for the annoying inability to use DVD player to view the ripped movies I keep on my SD card. I know there are other programs but I really like DVD player. DVD player won't start up without a DVD player attached. The default requirement is a built-in DVD player and I did manage to change the DVDplayback file to allow an external USB player. I really would like to run DVD player without any drive attached but I'm beginning to believe that is not possible. Failing that, I am wondering if it is possible to set up a USB stick that emulates a DVD drive. Everything I have been able to find (after hours of searching) focuses on making USB sticks bootable with the intention of installing something from them - not appearing as DVD drives to the system. What I want is to fool OS X into thinking that there is a DVD drive installed in the USB slot so I can start DVD player up. It doesn't have to do anything else - just sit there until OS X scans the bus and says, (figuratively) "Oh, I see there is a USB DVD player plugged in so I guess I'll let this bozo start up DVD player." I don't know enough about this to know if it is a simple thing or not. But, if it is possible and you know how, would you please share that information? Thank you.

ihaul
Asus eee Pc 1005HA
XP professional & OSX 10.5.7
iDeneb install

Hello together,

I have a problem by the installation or with boot of the Mac OSX.
I use an Asus EEE PC 1000H with Windows XP Professional SP3.
As an installation I have used iDeneb 10.5.6 and have gone forward after these instructions:
http://www.enik.ch/2009/03/osx-leopard-1056-on-the-eee-1000h/

Unfortunately, I cannot instal patched BIOS, the error message agrees
"Your BIOS is too old or your current Motherboard is not supported"
My BIOS version is that in 1803 and is not able also to downgrade with official BIOS.

However, the installation of the OSX has functioned so far, as soon as the Eee restarts then, however, and I have deleted the disk drive (if I it do not dequeue he wants to instal anew) I receive following error message:

nppvhash=4095
hi mem tamps at0xffee00000
PAE enabled
Darwin Kernel Version 9.6.0: Mon Nov 24 17:17:00 PST 2008; root: xnu-1228.9.59~1/RELEASE_I386
standard timeslicing quantum is 1000 us
vm_page_bootstrap: 253520 free pages and 8624 wired pages
mig_table-max_displ = 79
Extension "xcom.apple.driver.APPLEACPIPlatform" has immediate dependencies on botth com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style
AppleDecrypt; Copyright (c) 2008 Dale Walsh
Apple Decyrpt: Starting…
AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicId=1 LocalApicId=0 Enabled
AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicId=2 LocalApicId=1 Enabled
Loading security extension com.apple.nke.applicationfirewall
Loading security extension com.applesecurity.seatbelt
calling mpo_policy_init for mb
Seatbelt MACF policy initialized
Security policy loaded: Seatbelt Policy (mb)
Loading secruty extension com.apple.security.TMSafetyNet
calling mpo_policy_init for TMSafteyNet
Security policy loaded: Safety net for Timemachine (TMSafetyNet)
Copyright (c) 1982, 1986, 1989, 1991, 1993
The Regents of the University of Alifornia.
I have a 904ha, flashed with the 1000h hacked bios. OSX install went perfect, mouse and kb worked during install. System booted up, but first came up to screen saying it didnt recognize a mouse attached, but it picked up a USB mouse i plugged in. Once i did that, it then said it didnt recognize the keyboard, so again i used a USB keyboard with no issues. Just curious if there is some kext i need to install to fix this? Or if there might be some other problem. Everything still works in my win7 and eeeubuntu installs.

Thanks!
