Hahahaha, you know how long I've been dying to point out the many bits of evidence on MacEee.com that indicate that it is just a way to make money referring people to buy the 1000H?
I certainly don't mind you making edits to the wiki. In fact, anyone who has been granted membership can and should add to and edit the wiki. I do still enforce a members only policy for editing the wiki, but only to maintain quality — people here should be aware that I will grant membership to anyone who really wants to help assemble our knowledge base. That having been said, there have been so many people saying, hey we want to help you with sound but we don't have that level of understanding/skill — so we can just help test and anything else you can instruct us on… well this is the anything else. We need the community to jump in and help build the wiki. We moderators could certainly do it, but I'm sure everyone would rather have us throwing our skills into fixing the various kexts rather than spend time editing the wiki. So I am urging community members with the drive to read through the threads and summarize in guide format to contribute.
If we can just get sound working fully, I would definitely like to start GMA950 hacking. Not only would I like to make the 1024x600 hack readily available (I believe it was first done for the Wind, no reason we can't do it in-house here) but I would like the kext to also have the ability to force 1024x768 squished, to facilitate easy Creative Suite installation for one thing.
That's another thing that this community has provided. Mr. X and MacEee.com don't want to support anyone not using their guide, their distro, and a 1000H. Here we have opened the doors to all Eee users, the 900 series and 1000 series alike, no matter what distro or install method we are using, and even the S10 folks are jumping in here. I have also asked community members in the past to jump in with their experiences with other models… so far, the most experienced 901 user here is busy buried in CORB. ;) So who is willing to pick up the gauntlet for the multi-model guides? Also, those 1000HA and HD users who have experience, they came here asking for help and in many cases got that help, so I would like to have them give back and write up guides. Again, the "join" link above is just waiting for them.
I have also just updated the start page to include a multi-booter's section. I would definitely like to share my experience getting Vista to Dual Boot with OSX, with OSX installed FIRST and Vista in the SECOND partition, both booting with Chameleon. (Most OSX/Vista guides out there are Vista first, Windows Bootloader to load Chameleon), but unfortunately, I have spent most of my time visiting the site responding to relevant forum posts and working on AppleHDA. Rest assured I will be writing a guide of my experiences and hopefully get some others with triple and quad boot setups to chime in.
Ooh, building a custom distro disk? Ambitious. Risky too. (Apple legal, anyone?) ;) It's been said before, but I never really considered it as a true option until we really have all our device drivers down pat, and sound is definitely a major issue. But I would support it, if people wanted to step in and throw it together.
All issues that you brought up are things I've wanted to see happen in this community before we all found out what a pain in the ass AppleHDA is. I started this site with a "Build it and they will come" attitude and I hope that our members that aren't directly helping out with kext development sign up for wiki writing. You'll get your names up in lights… a bright 1024x600 light, that is. ;)
