Skype will run using a USB headset on my 701, I am still trying to get OSX onto my 901. Skype will use Apple internal mics and speakers, or USB mics and ordinary headsets on real apple computers. MACs also don't like external USB cameras, The internal one is listed as USB high speed bus and external ones have previously been firewire, check what is recognised in System profiler, below is what my mac book pro says:
