repost from here (try to use the excellent search for this forum next time ;-)
There are two basic types of SSDs:
MLC (Multi Layer something):
Cheap
Read speed is OK (around 40MB/s)
Write speed is KO (around 15MB/s - not suitable to install on OS - Win or OSX - might just work with a tuned Linux)
SLC (Single Layer something):
Expensive
Read speed is OK (around 40MB/s)
Write speed is OK (around 25-30MB/s)
So be cautious what you buy!!!!!!!
On the famous mydigitaldiscount you can get (at the time of this writing):
A 32GB MLC for around 99.99$
A 32GB SLC for a hefty 329.99$
See the difference ;-) ?
For 901 owners:
The 4GB primary SSD in the 901 is SLC
The 16GB secondary SSD in the 901 is MLC
I had installed OSX on the secondary on my former 901 and though it was usable it is absolutely no match
with the speed I get on the 1000H (that's why I did change in the first place ;-)
Hope this helps you on deciding which one to buy,
Nik
