I have a 1000h with iDeneb 1.3 installed and almost everything works. I can wake from sleep no problems, just the mic and ethernet like everyone else.

One other thing though. The drive keeps going into standby. You can hear the click as it does so and every disk access wakes it. I'm worried I'm going to be killing the drive. It's only supposed to last so many wakes from standby. Does anyone have the same problem? I asked on Nik's blog and didn't receive a fix so my last chance is with you guys. Any idea?

I definitely know what you mean. I placed a 7200 rpm hitachi 200gb hd in my EeePC 1000H and it clicks (parking the heads) every 10 seconds or so. This does in fact shorten the lifespan of the hard drive. Suggestions were to disable APM on the harddrive, however in my all efforts, that did not work. It is probably because my harddrive wasn't compatible with the program.

So I suggest you trying out HDAPM first: http://mckinlay.net.nz/hdapm/

If that does not work. I found a band-aid to fix the issue. This program here (Declunk) does a read on the harddrive every 4 seconds so the parking of heads does not initiate. This does not slow down the harddrive as far as I can tell and in my mind saving my harddrive from pre-mature failure. I had to modify the original program for the EeePC by making the interval shorter. I believe the original was 5 seconds, but making 4 seconds got rid of the clicking.

To install Declunk:

1. Open terminal
2. cd (drag the declunk folder to terminal window, then press enter)
3. Type: ./install.command

I would not advise to execute .command file by just double clicking on this particular one. For some reason when you do that, it does not install properly and the files do not get copied to the respective folders. Thus follow my instructions above to complete installation.

Could be a way the script was written? I'm not too sure, I had to battle with trying to figure out how to get the script to work properly, and that was the only way. :-/

Tried HDAPM and it said that APM wasn't supported. Will try your other suggestion and report back…

System Preferences > Users > Login Items > + [select declunk]. Then you should probably tick the hide box.

The install automatically sets declunk to open automatically upon boot. No need to add it to login items.

I was worried about my hdd too, and I found this page. I tried first one but it says my hdd does not support APM, so I will apply the second trick(Declunk) however in my country megaupload is disabled and I can not download. Can anyone help and upload "Declunk for eee" to rapidshare? Thanks.

By the way does your hdd spindown happens only after sleep? Mine does only after wakeup from sleep. I will not use sleep and search for an answer for now.

No my hdd spins down as soon as OSX boots, even during the booting process. I can't get declunk working automatically so I just open a terminal and type

sudo /usr/local/sbin/declunk —interval 3 —debug 1

and let it run in the terminal. That way I know it's working. No idea why the installer doesn't work although maybe it's because if you use the default 4 second interval the clunk still occurs. It only stops if you use 3 seconds as in the line above.

I have edited the declunk.plist. By using the edited plist and the instructions from http://www.aandcp.com/blog/?p=21 I was able to get declunk to start automatically. However i don't know how to change the interval to 3 for executable so it makes little difference.

Note: this was all done with the root user.

my own experience for more than a month

Well, I first read the thread: Hard disk goes on standby constantly by mekondelta where I’ve found the wonderful package by 4274284727.

Here is what I did to have the package working for me… I don’t have any remark on it — starts on login, works in sleep and standby… and vice-versa ;)

1. First I’ve downoladed, extracted it and opened the install.command in TE (TextEdit, not Terminal) from the resulting declunk folder.

2. Using Finder I went to /Library/LaunchDaemons and pasting there declunk.plist…

3. Then I did /usr/local/sbin pasting there declunk (Unix executable)…

4. Finally, checking my Startup items in System Profiler I went to /System/Library/StartupItems/ and moved there the entire declunk folder.

Now I gonna try the Thireus way to see what's next. Regards, //NF

You have to click on fix, it happened for me too. It's because the system checks where the file you put into the startup folder comes from (when it was created etc.). That's a normal issue for security reasons.

SO CLICK ON FIX!
And then reboot.

Yeah, that's what I did ;) but I am curious to know what system did exactly to approve it as trustworthy.

ClunKiller works the same as DeClunk; it is easier to add it to your system, so I recommend it to all with 1000H that worry about theirs drive health. Bravò, Thireus!

Today I have created a package installer for ClunKiller.

If you have already installed ClunKiller and if it's running ok then you don't need it.
