The Voodoo team now has an alternative implementation of AppleHDA. It is a FreeBSD port and has compatibility with probably 99% of codecs that are out there. Feature wise it is currently capable of outputting to both internal speakers and headphones. Recording via the internal microphone and microphone port is disabled in the build I have but has been completed.
We are going to be looking for some technically proficient testers (those that have actually been modifying AppleHDA and understand pin configuration and verbs) to confirm the extension works on hardware that has been unable to work well with AppleAzalia or AppleHDA. It seems from looking around the forums that EEE users have serious problems, i'd like to hear from any users here who meet the testing requirements so we can find out how well this new extension works.

Bear in mind that at this stage, Dense is requesting for testers that are technically proficient with pin configuration and verbs, so this is not ready for prime time with the part of the community that needs help using Audieee or the relative console commands. This basically means our existing HDA dev team (minus myself, until next year).

Very exciting stuff! I was not looking forward to disassembling AppleHDA further! :)

I'd be happy to try to help. My software is a bit rusty, but I was an assembly programmer at one point. I could probably learn what is needed to test fast enough.

I have a 901.

Greg,

Thanks for the offer. All help is welcome. I myself do not know what Dense & their team will be needing in terms of expertise, but it is clear they want people who have a basic understanding of HDA pin configuration. I would suggest you review our existing data on AppleHDA and its configuration, up until the discovery of verbs that made Azalia work, to be ready for when Dense comes back with a prototype driver to test.

In the event of this project having success with the Eee/ALC269, there would be no need for Audiee, just a kext; is that correct?

Yes, this is basically a case of, since hacking Apple's kext is such a giant PITA, make our own (rather, Voodoo team makes their own). Haven't heard back from Dense yet, but I anticipate we should soon.

Hi, I'd just like to throw my hat in the ring for testing. I have a basic understanding of modding AppleHDA and have been fiddling with it for a while now. Despite my best efforts, I've been unsuccessful so far. My card is an ALC663 (Asus M70VM laptop). I've only just stumbled upon the Audiee fix, which has definitely provided me a better experience than the AppleAzalia kext I modded (hey, at least now I have a reliable way of using headphones). Before the Audiee app, I had to "warm-boot" my sound chip by first booting my laptop to vista login screen, then restarting & booting OSX. So you can imagine I'm delighted that Audiee can init my chip without this nonsense ;-). I think my card would probably be a good test case since it seems to have a less common set of codec verbs. I believe the ALSA driver was modified for it to work in linux.

Anyways, let me know! I'd love to help out.

Same story as ToastedLogic… only difference is that i havent got any sound out at all… Only a little scratchy sound out of the headphones… Ironicly enough i modified an Azalia .kext to work with my card but it never worked… It worked on all the other laptops with ALC663 for example ToastedLogics. I have an Asus G50V which has different verbs when compared to ToastedLogics, Asus M70VM…

More on the ALC663 can be found on Insanelymac

I hope i can get a chance to help out!
Peace!
