I have my 1000HE, my first netbook, and loving it. Problem is that I can't get OS X on it. There's a writeup on smallcomputing.net, but it's not very good, and it's using the old ideneb 1.3. Anyone have any success installing and especially with getting the wifi to work?

We need to get the ball rolling on a writeup for this model, and also an updated writeup using ideneb 1.4 instead of the old 1.3.

Well I finally got OS X installed successfully. I have everything working except for network (wireless or wired) and bluetooth. Other than that it seems just as fast if not faster than my G4 Powerbook that I'm on right now. The sound, brightness, trackpad, monitor out, display, sleep/wake, and camera all seem to work great. I installed the bluetooth kext but nothing happened so I'm still working on that, but my main conscern is wifi.

I would love for someone who actually knows what they are doing to make a how-to for everyone else out there. I just used a conglomeration of other articles.

I will however say that I did have to use the iDeneb v1.3 instead of v1.4 to get it to install correctly. If anyone has any questions I'll be happy to help, or try to at least.

hi Paradox9,

could you please post here, for the reference at least, models of wifi, lan and sound modules prebuilt on 1000HE (seem different from 1000h). i got to use dell dw1395 wifi card instead of stock one - great thing i'd say :)

and, btw, try installing clean (retail) OS X instead of handmade distros :) I did it last weekend on my 1000h and it works like a charm on mbr partition (see clues from Toonces)

Did you end up using the modified bios for 1000H on 1000HE? and did it work? I saw your earlier thread and I was just wondering if you used it. Also, did you have any success with installing a retail copy like the guy at http://eeemac.blogspot.com/ ?

I ended up not updating my bios. I actually risked it by trying to update using the patched 1000H bios, but it would not update (using windows asus bios update utility).

Guys,

My 1000H died on me two days ago and I got the 1000HE instead…
The good news is that this got me tinkering with OSX again…
I just wrote a new Tutorial on how to install 10.5.7 on the 1000H (based on my older tutos for the 1000H) and I created a modified BIOS (Version 0802) as well as the dsdt.aml that goes with it

It's has really been running well (for the last 24 hours at least since I set it up ;-)

There are a lot of good guides out there but none of them got me to the point of a working up-to-date OSX, so I did my own…

Remark for the BIOS:

• I just modified the CPU aliases, so it's possible that you won't need it - give it a try without
• I flashed and reflashed it mixed with standard ASUS bioses for about 20 times and it didn't brick my eee
• If you brick you ipis I won't be able to help you.. Flashing can always go wrong for 10000 different reasons

Hey guys! Nik, AWESOME tutorial and file package! My netmacbook is the new "must-see" in my dorm!

I used your 1000HE OSX 10.6.1 tutorial (both parts and "Post-Installation problems" fix) from technow.cc. I am running a 1000HE with 2gigs and BIOS 1104 using the dsdt for a 2gig model. I cannot use Windows 7 without 1104, but therefore the dsdt isn't perfect for my install. So I have two questions:

1. Has anyone compiled a working DSDT for OSX 10.6.1 BIOS 1104 (1000HE 2gigs)?
2. If not, I am willing to use BIOS 1002, but is there any way to fix the ACPI in Windows 7 so that it will work with BIOS 1002?

(btw, I have an account on enik.ch with the name I used here, but for some reason my university's servers won't allow the technow.cc site through, or else I would have posted this there. I have to use Google's cached version to view the tutorial! Oh well, I love it anyways! ;)

A vanilla install package was put together by me, but I didn't have time to write up all the instructions.
Some people took up that task, and while I went about it slightly differently, you can get the gist by checking out this thread here: 1000HE vanilla install

Hope this helps. I'm in the process of putting together v3 of this stuff, so updated info is likely to show up over there in the next week or so…

I'm about to get my 100HE this week, but I'd like to hit the ground running re: boot 132 install method. Could someone be so kind as to list the kexts that they have in use for the 1000HE? I plan on doing a comprehensive write up on my steps/progress, but any info I can get beforehand would be great.

I used the iDeneb distribution v 1.3, and then followed the writeup on this site for installing on a 1000H and also found another writeup and everything was working except for wireless and ethernet. I needed to upgrade to 10.5.6 so that I could install iLife '09 and ended up screwing everything up in doing so. I'm about to try using the retail install method. I was able to grab a retail copy of 10.5.6 from the box set with iLife and iWork, this way I won't need to upgrade and should be able to get updates as they are released. I guess no one will get the wireless card working in this thing so I'll have to swap it out, shame… it works well.

I have plenty of free time these days if you want to tag team the 1-2-3 install.

I just tried the boot 132 install this morning. Didn't work (the installer hangs), but I wasn't using a vanilla boot 132 CD, so I may try that later. I'm downloading iDeneb 1.3 right now. I've put easy peasy linux (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.geteasypeasy.com%2F&ei=xdeuSahnooG3B5PBgYcG&usg=AFQjCNHDoJ9fTTRkQfigdoFj8hVoAe9QJg&sig2=BUfV6XkhRf8S4gfJQEncgA) on the thing for right now, so I can run lspci & find out exactly what hardware is in the 1000he. It'll be pretty worthless without any networking capability. But I'll definitely post up my lspci findings if ya like…. Perhaps we can get it working froma vanilla retail install DVD after all.

I don't really know my way around Windows anymore so here's what I can tell you about the hardware so far, let me know if you know of a way to get more detailed info.

Chipset: i945GU
Sound: Realteck
Video: Mobile Intel 945 Expres
Hard Disk: ST9160310AS (Seagate Momentus 5400.5)
Wifi: AzureWave (Atheros Communications)

Sorry, I know it's not detailed, I just don't know how to find the info. I tried Device manager, and an app called PC Wizard (by makers of CPU-Z).
BT: Broadcom BT-253
Trackpad: Elantec (using i8042 port driver, it believe it is a ps/2 connection)

in the case you still have windows installed - device manager seems to be enough if you use stock (asus) drivers package (not windows default).
you can also try astra32 app (even trial version) that will give you detailed info on every component…

so, as i could realize from what you posted if your mic-in doesn't work and you used azalia - sound is much likely to be the same.

BT-253 is absolutely the same (with ideneb 1.3 it worked fine but stuck after official update to 10.5.6 - I posted it in my thread). Retail install of 10.5.6 gives fully functional BT

I also had AzureWave label on a stock wifi card module (replaced now) for which Ralink driver was successfully used (have you tried it? here is the link if not: http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/drivers/STA_RT2860%20D-1.1.2.0%20UI-1.6.9.0_2009_01_09.dmg)

For those who replaced the wireless card: Can you tell me where it is located? Do I have to remove the motherboard to get to it? Is it under the motherboard?

Yes it's under the motherboard, so you have to open it up down to the very last screw…

On the 1000HE, the wireless is NOT visible once opening the panel. You would have to open up the whole laptop to get to the wireless card. The only thing accessible after opening the panel is the HDD and the RAM.
