Regarding the usage of the cockroach, I understand that some people don't find it as cute as I think it is. No one is forcing that on you. When I started the community, it was my prerogative to bring my little inside joke to the forefront of the Internet. I was amused that people that did not speak Filipino chose to adapt ipis as a shorthand name for our tiny netbooks. A lot of people come here and start using the term. Some of you choose not to. That is an individual choice.
As disgusting as you may find it… it's a single logo. And it's NOT the reason we don't show up in Google. You are implying that just because the word ipis is present, then Google's search bots overlook the EeePC and OS X throughout the site? No, that doesn't make sense. If you don't like the logo, it's not like it's on the page background. Given the screen size of a netbook, the second you scroll down to read anything, the logo is gone. So what is the big issue?
Google ranking is based on LINKS. (PageRank on Wikipedia) Blogs and other forum posts that link here raise our presence on Google. There's no need to add or change keywords. All the necessary words are here just by talking about the things that we do - get OS X running on an EeePC/ipis. If anything, I'm starting to wonder if maybe it's a Wikidot thing that we aren't being indexed properly.
Furthermore, the very idea of installing OS X on non-Apple hardware means that we cannot mention or use Apple branding. It is my creative right to gather a group together and say, we'll call this an ipis group. InsanelyMac doesn't specifically mention Apple in its branding, and yet it is the central site for OS X 86.
This site has been up for almost a year now, and many people have taken to the little cockroach joke I started. You don't have to like the joke, but I resent that you call it "non-sense". The sense is explained on the first page. If you think it's funny, you use it too, if you don't, you've been coming here anyway. People aren't going to stop searching for how-to directions on a retail EFI install on the ipis forum just because there's a cockroach in the logo. What about the band Papa Roach? I'm sorry to say, roaches are common in the media as well. As long as we're not advertising food, I don't think it should even be an issue.
Let us move from the issue of the logo. Allegri was right in saying that this would lead off topic. It was chosen by my discretion as admin, as was the name of the site, and the origin of that name. I don't mean to sound harsh, but since it is clearly explained on the site homepage that the ipis joke is homage to my Filipino heritage, to call it nonsense outright is offensive, and I don't want to discuss it further.
As for the viability of the wiki, Allegri is right. It isn't being used. I think the best compromise would be not to remove it altogether, but to change how it is being used. It takes too much time for people to write guides in the threads, let alone format them for wiki pages.
Why not use the wiki as an index? It would not be the same amount of work as actually rewriting guides. A page could be as simple as, 1000HE Summary, and you click on it, and then inside, just links to relevant forum threads with brief headings.
